My thought on the recertification requirement released by the ARDMS yesterday:
After taking a day to think about the information that was sent, I have mixed views. My thought is that this recertification process can have two outcomes.
Outcome 1 (Bad): A decline in the number of registered sonographers due to the number of failed registrants and those that decide they would rather retire than to take a recertification test.
Outcome 2 (Good): The quality of care that is provided to patients and the knowledge base the sonographer posses conincides with the mission of the ARDMS which is “empowers sonographers to provide exceptional patient care through rigorous assessments and continual learning” (www.ardms.org). As we are all over-achievers, this would be a great opportunity to determine if sonographers are using their careers as a platform for professional development and an opportunity for life-long learning.
Technology is changing rapidly and the use of sonography is steadily inclining as the first choice of imaging. I would like to know that those in my career field are progressing with the needs of medicine. Im a stickler for teaching and continued learning. I decided to create SONONOTES as a continual learning tool. As you all know registries are created by “experts” in the field of sonography. There is an indefinite amount of information that sonographers can obtain about a particular discipline. What those experts and registry writers have done was narrowed the “need to know” information into content outlines and task lists.
I have taken those task lists and provided you with the informaiton that coincides with the things listed. Lets say its researching and weeding the “mumbo jumbo” that you won’t need and presenting it from a sonographers perspective. We are the ones scanning, learning new tricks and tips to this thing we call a career, and continually mastering the process.
Dont freight because you dont have the requried books needed to refresh learned material from your ultrasound school. SONONOTES will be your go-to source for assistance with studying for the recertification examinations.
